Brands I Love: Tecovas

This week on the #GreerGuidetoStyle, I headed to Tecovas' eastside showroom to hear a little bit more about the history of the company, to learn the reason why these boots are so damn comfy and to finally get the scoop on how they actually pronounce Tecovas (yeah, I was most excited about that question).

As a native-Texan, my quest for the perfect cowboy boots always felt never ending. Yes, I've had boots I loved in the past, but typical cowboy boots require breaking them in, and who's got time for that?!

When I found Tecovas on Instagram, I was drawn to the brand, because the boot had a certain look to it that conveyed ease, a relaxed fit -- no breaking in necessary. And sure enough, they fit exactly as I had hoped. They slide right on, and I've preeeeeeeetty much never taken them off since.

The Tecovas booties I own, The Penny, also comes true to size, so there's no guessing game as far as staying true or sizing down (many cowboy boot companies encourage you to size down).

The boots are soft, shape to my foot and go with EVERYTHING. That's right...EVERYTHING. I wear these with a cocktail dress for an Austin chic look or with my leggings and a sweater on these colder days. Jeans and boots are forever soulmates, so that's a style-must and they work equally as well with shorts and a graphic tee in the summer time.

Whether you're a full-blooded Texan or are looking to try out cowboy boots for the first time, Tecovas are the ones you want in your wardrobe.

We're talking jumpsuits.

Being stylish doesn’t always mean wearing the current trends. The attitude you embody, the confidence you project, and the vibe you create are what collectively give you an individual sense of style.  That being said, when a trend emerges that is as a chic as it is playful, it can’t be ignored. The jumpsuit is a noteworthy trend.

Don’t confuse the jumpsuit with its cousins, the romper and the playsuit. To clarify, a playsuit is two items: a matching blouse and pair of shorts. A romper is a single garment that combines the top and the shorts.

A jumpsuit is a single garment incorporating both pants and a top.

Jumpsuits are a great opportunity to blend the ease of getting ready with a high fashion look. They also show your figure without being too restricting or uncomfortable. They can work for many different occasions: a wedding, girl’s night, or a morning stroll to the farmer’s market.

I wore a jumpsuit for the first time to my husband’s Christmas party last December and felt as svelte as I did flirtacious. It took a little while for me to convince myself that I could pull it off, though. What it came down to was this: finding the right shape for my body and a tall glass of confidence. And after I got over all of the mental stumbling blocks, I went to the party and I rocked that jumpsuit! If you’re currently saying to yourself that you could never pull off a jumpsuit, you’re wrong!

The one thing you need to know is which suit works for your body type.

So let’s talk about shapes – what type of jumpsuit works best for you? There is one key factor to determine your body type: Do you have a defined or not-defined waist? If you do have a defined waist, you are an hourglass or pear. Try on jumpsuits that come in at the waist in order to accentuate your most slender silhouette. If your waist is not defined, you may be more of an apple, an inverted triangle, or a square. In this case, look for a jumpsuit with a dropped waist. This will fit you more comfortably and better define your figure.

You can also use the shape to play up the vibe of the event. If you decide on a dropped waist jumpsuit to wear to a picnic, simply add a sporty heel and a simple bag for a classic look. For date night, accentuate your curves with a tailored jumpsuit and sparkly jewels. Take a jumpsuit from day to night by switching from sandal to stiletto and from studs to statement earrings.

Monday to Friday: Styled

This week, I started a new job in Austin. As I mentioned in The First Impressions Post, how you present your style in the workplace is an integral part of setting the tone for how you'll be treated as a female professional.

In general, the workplace wardrobe rules have significantly relaxed over the years. Many employers are less focused on what employees wear, frequently allowing t-shirts and jeans, as long as the job gets done well. To a degree, this may sound refreshing. I tend to believe that foregoing that level of casualness and maintaining a more polished look is beneficial, and I'll explain why.

Great style isn't what you wear, it's what you embody. Who do you become when you look and feel fantastic? What you wear to work should allow you to become that best version of yourself, enabling you to give your all every single day. For me, taking the time to look presentable and professional makes me more productive; I embody the hard-working leader I strive to be when I am polished.

I know, and am even teased about, that I tend to be "fancy."  I wouldn't mind if I was required to be dressy every single day. All that to say, my job encourages business casual attire. For my workday outfits this week, I tried to choose pieces that strike a balance between my love for style and professionalism, without being too formal.

Today's Casual Friday is all about a pop of color. When you find yourself pieces together a neutral outfit, bring in an accent color to brighten up your look. The contrast between the neutral and the color will make your outfit more striking and intentional.

Raquel Greer Gordian models a casual summer look incorporating a black tank, printed maxi skirt, red beaded statement necklace, black cat eye sunglasses, and red platform block heels.

Friday Fashion Fix: Vintage Treasures

It's Casual Friday again! Today's look features my latest vintage dress find from Blue Velvet Vintage in Austin, TX.

Bring a couple modern touches to a vintage piece to give a fresh view point. For this one, I paired my Frye boots, Anthropologie belt and bold geometric earrings to do exactly that.
