What to Wear to Holiday Parties

The time of year is upon us when we mix, mingle and make merry with our families, friends and coworkers at holiday parties. These occasions are the perfect opportunity to show off your personal style and get festive with your wardrobe.

Whether the holiday party you're attending is dressy casual or formal, feeling good in what you're wearing is key to kicking back and having a great time. A few pieces to consider for your holiday shindig...

Cold-Shoulder Dress

The cold-shoulder trend is hanging in there over the holidays, and there's no better way to incorporate this style than with a feminine and festive holiday dress. A longer sleeve will help keep you warm while the cold shoulder adds visual interest to the dress. Extra style points here if you...

wear red!

No color signifies "holiday season!" better than red, and this year, it's winter's trendiest hue. Whether you choose a classic cherry, oxblood, or coral, you can't go wrong with red for a holiday occasion.

Festive Details

Beadwork and sequins are perfect embellishments to wear to your holiday event because they bring ENERGY to your look. Even a single piece with intricate detail adds a powerful yet elegant touch to your overall outfit for events with cocktail, formal or black tie dress codes.

Envelope Clutch

Carrying all your essentials for a big night out isn't a job for your day-to-day tote. With a large envelope clutch, you're able to bring everything you need for the evening (and in a chic, event-appropriate way!)

animal print coat

It's easy to throw on an overcoat in a safe neutral like black, navy or tan, but where's the fun in that?! Cheetah, leopard, python... animal prints are perfect for a heavy coat because they let you show off your personal style even when temperatures drop.

Hello, 2017!
Get inspired to party the night away with the perfect outfit.

Don't be shy about mixing your everyday pieces with party wear. I use this blouse for work occasions and holiday festivities.

Shop this jacket now.

Mix texture to keep people on their toes. Use sparkle, leather, suede or fringe to create an outfit people will be complimenting all night.

NYE is the day to go big with your heels, so embrace it! Bring out your leopard heels, your red stilettos or your python pumps. Shop these now.

LOOK two

Where you're ringing in the New Year:
in a bar on the east side or at a live music venue

Not everyone can wear black, and if you are one of those people, you know to go colorful for NYE! Red is the perfect option for holiday festivities, so pull this from your closet.

Shop the horn cuff below and gold rings above. Use code "GreerVIP" at checkout to receive 30% off.

These tassels are some of my favorite party earrings, and they come in every hue. Find your color.

Repurpose this year's favorite trend: the romper. Pair it with a light weight jacket, NYE heels and be on your way!

LOOK Three

Where you're ringing in the New Year:
on Rainey Street or at a friend's house party

NYE Note:
There can never be too much glitz.

Shout out to my brother and sister-in-law for getting me the perfect Christmas gift: these earrings. They finish off the look flawlessly. Shop them here.

Mix metals to create a fashion-forward look. And don't forget your envelop clutch! The angular shape enhances the angles in the top. Remember, each element needs to work together harmoniously.

The possibilities for 2017 are endless! Happy New Year!

Deconstructing Your NYE Look

How do you bring 2015 in with a bang? Learn to seamlessly coordinate the various elements that make up an outfit. Here are five things to zero-in on to be NYE prepped and ready.

5. HAIR

Hair is such an important part of any look because hair can make or break an outfit. If your hair's a hot mess, you can forget about anyone noticing anything other than that. For NYE, try something you rarely do. Create retro curls, put it up in an elegant bun, or incorporate a boho braid.

4. NAILS

This little detail doesn't go unnoticed. It's the icing on the cake. Just like the rest of the look, the nails must match. Go RED for a ballroom bash, go GOLD for a house party, go BLACK for an underground spot, and go PURPLE for an eclectic restaurant (that's where I'll be).

3. SHOES

Go big or go home. There is a very specific pair of shoes I dust off for this occasion every year. To give you an idea of what they look like, they also double as my Vegas heels.  If you also have that special pair of metallic, no less than 4' heels, pull them out. NYE is the perfect time for over-the-top fashion. After all, you'll only be bringing in 2015 once.

2. EMBELLISH

Despite the decadent nature of all the other elements of your outfit, keep the accessories to a minimum. Perhaps a cuff? Or knuckle rings? Or try something new this year: flash tattoos! Visit Headdress on South Lamar to find your perfect pack.

1. CLOTHING

Of course clothing is #1 because it will bring everything together. Whether you're in pastels or pewter, there is one thing to consider: the formality of your event. If you're at a NYE cocktail party or wedding, don't come in something less formal because you didn't plan ahead. Figure it out now, before you're scatter-brained the night of. And don't forget! Your layers should match the event too.

Now, I would love to hear from you! Make sure to comment below what your NYE outfit plans are!

Dress to Impress at the Holiday Party

The key to being stylish is being unpredictable, whether you’re at the office party or a friend’s holiday shindig. Being unpredictable doesn’t mean dressing like someone else. It means you avoid the drab, campy, overworked holiday costume of years past. This year, you should stand out… in the right ways.

I’ve put together a few ideas that will bring a little whimsy to your next holiday function.

Skip the red and green. Stick to black and white.

Flip a Classic.

Whether it's your mother's pearls or a vintage brooch, it can be incorporated into your outfit in a fun, exciting way.

Bring the Bling.

This is the only time of the year when tacky can turn chic. Embrace it. Costume jewelry is the perfect touch for any party look that A. won't burn a hole in your pocket and B. gets you in the mood to celebrate.

Dress Up Your Denim.

Denim can be worn to many semi-formal occasions as long as you follow one rule: The denim cannot be the star. A subtle dark blue or black denim paired with vibrant heels or a sequin sweater allows you to be comfortable and edgy while chatting around the punch bowl.
