Refresh your summer wardrobe with new ways to wear it.

The summer season is quickly coming to an end, but as us Texans know, the heat won't make its exit until late October. Because of this, it's important to get the most of the clothes you feel most comfortable in during the heat: your summer wardrobe.

By this time in the season though, you've probably used up all your summer outfits and are now left with the stale remnants of looks you once adored.

But don't get down! If you still love an item, there are always new ways to piece it together with other clothes in your wardrobe that make it feel exciting again.

I recently went on "We Are Austin" to talk about exactly that: how to refresh you summer wardrobe with only the contents of your closet. That's right...no shopping required.

WATCH THE CLIP and get ideas on how to create your new favorite warm weather outfit.

Leave the pants. Take the booties.

Pants are a placeholder. Yes, there are some truly fabulous pants that will make you feel like a million bucks, but so often I find my clients reach for them, not because they love pants, but because they aren't sure what else works. This motion is intensified when we enter boot season.

Booties (and all boots) are perfect for this week of weather, but you don't need pants to wear them. Try pairing them with shorts, dresses or skirts. It can feel tricky, but these more summer-y pieces can be a perfect weather-appropriate boots-included outfit.

Mixing pieces from different seasons indicates you've got style intuition, because you're creative and pair what you love, not what outfits you've been handed from the J.Crew catalogue.

Whenever trying something new, you may have questions.

"Do I need stockings, leggings or tights?"
"Will my legs look stumpy and cut-off?"
"Am I too short to pull this off?"
"Am I too old to wear boots like this?"

The answer: no.

No matter your age, height, or body type, this is a fun, easy and fashion-forward way to style your outfit this fall.

Whether you're the kind of gal who likes to dip her toe in at the pool or cannonball in, it's time to test the water and love your fall look.

Here are 4 to get you started...

Link different elements of your outfits together to create a cohesive look (i.e. sand-colored scarf with sand-colored boots.)

Invest in a pair of classic hoops to finish any outfit.

Pop the same color in multiple parts of an outfit (i.e. the lapis blue scarf detail and the lapis blue ring.)

The vest is my favorite Austin autumn piece, because it adds a bit of warmth without having a full fall coat.

Tie up your button-down to create a more feminine and flirty look.

For a more free-spirited look, mix and match patterns in an unconventional way.

What To Wear For The Weekend

Deciding what to wear on your days off can be incredibly difficult considering the range of activities that can take place between a Friday evening and a Sunday night.

Soccer games, brunches, church, grocery shopping, date night—the variety that the weekend brings is what makes it so fun. But the dramatic swing from what's appropriate to wear at one event to the next can make getting ready for those festivities a little stressful. Deciphering the clear difference between dressy casual, casual and the "I'm hanging at home" sweats can dictate how comfortable or out of place you feel at a given activity.

Did you know there is actually a category of dressing called "dressy casual"? Emily Post's 18th Edition of "Etiquette" defines weekend attire as follows:

Dressy casual consists of wearing a dress, skirt and dressy top, dressy pants outfit, or nice jeans and a dressy top.

Casual dressing consists of a sundress, a long or short skirt, khakis or nice jeans, shorts, a plain t-shirt, a polo shirt, a turtleneck, or a casual button-down blouse.

While these categories are quite general and don't include all trending looks (no jumpsuits on the list?!?), they can serve as a guide to what to wear to your many weekend occasions.

The dressy casual outfits work for events like that brunch, a baby shower, date night or a birthday party.

The casual outfits work for events like the soccer game, shopping, routine errands, a picnic in the park.

The sweats, well... they can't leave the front doorsteps.

Last week, Emily and I explored dressy casual and casual occasions to give you an idea of how to dress for the plethora of events.
