Shop Austin: The November Boutiques

The East 5th Street Block Shops

Passport Vintage

This shop is located upstairs from Aro and specializes in recreating vintage denim into your perfect pair of jeans. Maria, the owner, tailors jeans into slim fit cuts, while also cropping the bottom for an on-trend look. She also has an eye for rare vintage tees. The result: a collection of pieces that will turn your weekend look into a style statement.

The selection of jeans includes Levi's 501s and Wranglers.

ARO

ARO, the East Austin jewelry shop, celebrates small jewelry designers located all over North America: Austin, California, Brooklyn, Canada. When you walk into ARO, the structure, the colors, the lines weave a clear picture of what's in it: thoughtful, modern, feminine art.

Use code "greer15" to receive 15% off your next purchase at ARO online or in store.

Byron & Blue

Named after the owner's childhood pup and current fur baby, Byron and Blue houses all the home goods and knick-knacks that make perfect holiday gifts for friends, family and above all, you.

The owner, Alexia, says her most important space to her is home, which is why she decided to open this shop rather than a clothing boutique. The shop does carry one line of clothing though and from now until the end of this month, will host a pop-up shop from Pieceology Vintage

Shop Austin: The July Boutique

Feathers Boutique

Sometimes when you wander into a local shop, you become thoughtful of your environment in the same way you would in a museum. You examine each piece carefully as you stroll through. With Feathers, this is a must, because like a museum, each piece at this SoCo side-street shop has a story.

This boutique is filled with mostly vintage and some new pieces (from their in-house line) that all deserve a little stop-and-stare action. There are pieces that have been preserved since the 1800's, and others that were worn by Texas celebrities.

One of the things I love about this place is that the owner's point of view is crystal clear. This store is a celebration of women who don't follow the rules, but rather create their own path in life, love and style.

It is not just about selling the clothing, but rather the magic behind it. To say each piece is chosen carefully for this boutique would be an understatement. If you visit Feathers and find something you love, it's inevitable that purchase will yield a compliment or two.

RIO RITZ

This cute little street corner shop is located on Guadalupe next to the new Torchy's Tacos. Originally from Dallas, this boutique was quick to adapt to Austin style when owner, Thais Moses, moved in just a few months ago. It is laid back, boho and very reasonably priced. They also have the cutest little maltipoo mascot, Nala, that greets you at the door (can't beat that)! It's a great place to stop in for easy, breezy weekend wear or casual date night looks. It's a one stop shop boasting jewelry, sunglass, boots, bags and lingerie to finish off your outfit. Just take a look...

VALENTINES

Shopping is necessary to create a wardrobe that is as fast paced and full of life as you are. And I totally understand: many of you hate it. In the past you may have been stuck with little to no direction on what you should be looking for or what actually works for you. That is undeniably frustrating.

The good news is shopping does not have to be a mission. It should not cause you to erupt with anxiety the moment you walk in the store.

Shopping is about falling in love with a piece of clothing that you absolutely must have. This is the kind of shopping I love to do. Clothing should always speak to your soul, just like a beautiful song or painting.

Because of this, I created the Shop Austin Style Series: a monthly photo tour of Austin's best boutiques. Explore clothes you'll love, find shops to adore and maybe even get inspired to take a trip across town to find out that your favorite new shop isn't as scary as it once may have seemed.

And if you want a little help along the way, contact me. I'd love to chat. As an image consultant, I uncover your natural beauty, discover your style and help you embrace your creativity through fashion.

For this month's boutique, I ventured out to Westlake to check out an upscale, fashion-forward hub that has been in Austin since '99.

This boutique is full of energy. When I visited, music was booming and people were everywhere, bustling around the walls covered with brightly colored clothing and displays teeming with knick-knacks and custom- made rings. Leighelena carries jewelry made by many different designers, but the highlight are the pieces the store creates itself. I am a sucker for cocktail rings, and at Leighelena, there are rings that can be customized. Colorful, magnetic plates can be attached to the base of each ring, so you can match any ring to the look of your outfit. Going into this shop is a mood elevator, and if you're looking for fun jewelry, this is a good place to find it.

VIBE // TRANSITIONAL PIECES FOR TRAIL- BLAZING WOMEN

There seems to be a big focus on sunglasses in Austin and with the weather today, it's easy to see why. What sets Hoiden apart from the rest is the dark color palette of its glasses. That palette extends throughout the store. But they still never loose sight of their femininity, their celebration of womanhood. As women, our personalities are multi-faceted and nuanced, the owner said, so the point of view of Hoiden is exactly that. It is edgy, sophisticated, womanly, and sexy. They have what you need, but also exactly what you want. This store could be in LA or NYC, but the owners always take into account the background of Austin when choosing pieces from around the world. The pieces are for a day like today in Austin when you never want to go home.
