Try these 4 styling tips with your loungewear to feel comfy, casual, AND fabulous.
It’s no secret that I’ve been spending all my days in sweatpants just like everyone else. Unless you’re hoping on a Zoom call, I can honestly say there’s no point to wearing anything more than your comfiest clothes.
But even in your sweatshirts, t-shirts, sweatpants, and joggers, there’s a way to feel good in what you’re wearing.
It all comes down to styling.
So today I’ve put together four outfit recipes that you can use in your own closet to create loungewear looks you love to wear.
Enjoy! Explore! And leave me a comment below! I would love to hear which look you’re most excited to try in your wardrobe.
Lots of love and joy!

LOOK ONE: STREET STYLE
While this look isn’t going to get a ton of street time, you can still create an on-the-go urban vibe by pairing a few of high-energy ingredients into one outfit:
1. Grab your graphic tee. This tee could have words, pictures, or a combination of both. This outfit is all about unexpected pops, so you have a lot of freedom in what you choose to use.
2. Grab your patterned loungewear. For mine, I’ve chosen camo cargo sweatpants from Nasty Gal, but you can choose anything that feels good to wear on the couch. Joggers, pajama pants, sweatpants, and harem pants are all included.
3. Next, add statement earrings to intensify the look a bit more. If you’re unsure what to choose, hoops are a great option that’ll pair easily with any outfit. I’ve chosen my “LOVE” earrings from Saks Off Fifth.
4. Lastly, if you’re leaving the house for errands and want to wear this look out (pajama pants are not an option in this case), add a neutral sneaker to round out the street style vibe. I’ve chosen my Softt slip-on sneakers for the highest level of comfort.
LOOK TWO: MONOCHROME
This is one of the easiest styling techniques to apply because you’re using a single color throughout the whole outfit.
Finding the right ingredients for this look is a two-step process:
1. Spot the loungewear pieces that fall into one color story (i.e., a pink story, a green story, a grey story.)
2. Spot the pieces from that color story that can fit together (i.e., a top, a bottom, jewelry that has the color in it.)
Below I’ve created a pink story from what’s in my closet.
For this type of styling, it’s important to remain open about what you see fitting into a color story.
For my look, I have four different pinks. The shoes are bubblegum. The pants are salmon. The sweatshirt is coral. The earrings are rose gold.
While all different, each piece comes together to create a unified monochrome look.
LOOK THREE: AUSTIN CASUAL
Austin is about practicality and subtle sophistication. It’s about minimalism coupled with western wear.
To create your Austin casual loungewear look, follow these steps:
1. Grab a cotton or linen button-down shirt. It could be white, chambray, or a light neutral like taupe, just nothing too starched and stuffy for this.
2. Grab a plain t-shirt in a light, neutral color. Options include white, heather grey, tan, taupe, blush, cream, or ivory.
3. Grab a loungewear pant that’s the same color as your t-shirt or a soft color like olive (what I’ve chosen), slate blue or charcoal.
4. Front tuck the t-shirt into the pants. Unbutton the button down and throw it over the t-shirt as a shirt jacket.
5. Next, add western accessories. If you’re not sure what to pull here, go for your chunky silver pieces to give your look a raw finish. If you’ve got turquoise, that is also a great option as well. These more intense elements will juxtapose your minimalist clothing to create the perfect balance.
6. Finish it with a fresh, white sneaker. If you don’t have white, any neutral sneaker will do.
LOOK FOUR: ON TREND
This look is about building an outfit around one of the biggest trends right now, which also happens to be one of the comfiest: biker shorts.
If you don’t have these in your closet, I highly recommend you get some. You can find them everywhere, from Target to Nordstrom Rack to Amazon. These shorts work for any body and all ages, so no matter where you’re at in life, you should give ‘em a try.
Here’s how to pair them:
1. Add a graphic tee. If you’ve only got the one you styled in the first look, you can rework it. If you’ve got another though, put it to good use. It’s always smart to vary your looks if you can, so you flex your creativity and styling knowledge.
For my look, I’ve chosen my cropped Nike tee to balance the longer length of the biker shorts.
2. Add a necklace. This could be a chunkier chain like I’m using in my look or it could be the gold-layered necklace look that’s so popular right now. You could even do a single pendant. The important thing is that you’re elevating an otherwise casual look through the necklace(s).
3. If you’re taking this look on-the-go for running errands, sneakers are the way to finish it. If you have a statement sneaker, use it for this. Biker shorts are totally 80s, and so are big bold colors. If you pair a statement sneaker, it will enhance your retro-inspired creation.
